liveSafe – Kids Helping Kids

What did you do for your birthday this year? For her third birthday, Mary Evelyn Higginbotham chose to help children who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. Mom Laura hosted a Beauty and the Beast themed party for Mary Evelyn, who asked that guests bring Belle’s favorite thing, books, in lieu of presents. Mary Evelyn and Laura delivered over 30 books to liveSAFE Resources.

These books will be enjoyed by children served by liveSAFE Resources. Children who have experienced trauma may exhibit signs of low self-esteem, emotional or behavioral problems, feelings of guilt or responsibility, or be at high risk for drug/alcohol abuse. liveSAFE Resources’ Child Advocate ensures that children who have experienced these types of trauma receive adequate care, including counseling, housing, school enrollment, clothing, and child care. The Child Advocate and trained volunteers host children’s groups where kids are taught how to express their emotions, create safety plans, and simply have carefree fun. These groups are in place to prevent even more children falling into the category of being overlooked victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Last year alone, the Child Advocate worked with over 200 children.

liveSAFE Resources’ vision is a community free from domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse. Thanks to donations like Mary Evelyn’s, the organization continues to spread awareness and ensure that even the littlest of victims can receive free services.
